Young people from the end of class six up to the second year of upper secondary school will get a free summer season ticket this year. Between 15th June and 15th August they can travel free all over Skåne on public transport.
Skåne has been given 45 million crowns from the government to pay for free travel for around 90,000 young people in Skåne, for travel in their home communes.
The red-green (left-wing – environmentalist) local government in Region Skåne proposes that young people should be able to travel all over Skåne. This proposal will be discussed by the public transport committee on 21st May.
The state grant will cover the cost of the summer ticket.
– For me it is fundamentally a question of giving our young people equality and a new awareness by letting them travel free of charge all over Skåne, says Stefan Svalö (S), chairman of the public transport committee.
– I hope that the young people get a positive impression of Skånetrafik. In that way we can lay the foundation for future travel by public transport, an environmentally favourable way of getting around, says Nicklas Ljungström (MP), first vice-chairman of the public transport committee.
For adults the Sommarbiljett summer ticket (formerly Jojo Sommar) will cost 695 crowns and will be on sale from 25th May.
Sommarbiljetten will be in the new app as well. It is also valid for journeys all over Skåne from 15th June till 15th August.
